2023, what a year it has been. I don’t know about y’all but it feels like the quickest one to date, and yet it was packed with SO much. First and foremost, it was the year the we returned to your podcast feed, after hibernating for about 18 months. It felt like due time to make a return, and in doing so we got the chance to chat with some new guests and bring you some new topics. As for this episode, Anson and Chris discussed many of the things that took place throughout the year around them and throughout pop culture. We talked sports, tech, culture, entertainment and more. So enjoy this quality recap of 2023 and let’s close out the new year and see whats good!
Anson and Chris were joined by the Founder of Joybru Coffee Alex Jacobs. His quest for betterment via super foods and plant medicine have led him to start a number of ventures geared towards health and wellness. His latest endeavor, Joybru, is a mushroom infused coffee company bringing high-quality, high-performing products into a new but competitive market. Alex’s goal is to bring health and wealth to consumers by modifying an existing habit, upgrading the coffee experience if you will. They talked about plant supplementation throughout history, as well as his vision for the future of the industry. They talked adaptogens, cannabinoids, functional mushrooms and more. Let’s face it, the fungus is among us, and it’s here to stay. The food industry, the beauty industry, the health and wellness industry… we are surrounded by shrooms, and Alex wants to introduce them to you through familiar ritual .
For the 3rd entry of the Pie Dreams and Quality Goods saga, Anson and I paid a visit to the Pie Smith himself Ricky Davis in his very own Pie Shop in Newark, California. It was an inevitable gathering that was years in the making, as we recalled our prior conversations where Ricky spoke of his aspirations of opening his own brick and mortar in the Tri City area. Ricky’s story truly is one of manifestation through consistency and accountability. Without any real mentor in the Pie smithing world, Ricky paved his own way into the pie scape, through quality processes and ingredients, and never cutting corners. The proof is in the pudding, or in this case the pie, as the success of Pie Dreams will be spread across tables in countless households in the approaching holiday season. It was a great conversation about counting your blessings, hard work paying off, and putting on for your community.
On this episode of the Quality Goods Podcast Anson and Chris discussed hobbies and side hustles. Many of their guests have navigated the path from hobby to side hustle to full blown career, so we pulled together some common threads from those in their circle. They talked about the importance of identifying the appropriate time to take a hobby or side hustle to the next level, and inversely identifying when something doesn't necessarily need to be taken to the next level. They talked about growth as an entrepreneur and business, scaling appropriately, and touched on how scaling too fast can be more harmful than helpful. This convo touches on all of that and more.
On this episode of the Quality Goods podcast, Anson and Chris had a discussion about generic and alternative brands. The modern market is exploding with branded goods, new brands launching every single day. This influx of newly branded goods also fosters a healthy market of imitators and imposters. But don’t they say imitation is the most sincere form of flattery? For some alt brands, that may be the case! But in instances like bootlegs, it may be a sign that you should steer clear. The spectrum of branded goods and their alternative and generic counter parts can be hard to navigate, so the guys thought it would be nice to share some insights about the market of generics and alternatives out there for those who may not be as familiar. So whether you’re a brand loyalist, or bargain hunting for a high quality knock off, this conversation has some great info about the marketplace.
What is going on good people?! Quality Goods is back and ready to provide you with the quality stories of triumph from entrepreneurs in your community. After a 15 month hibernation, Anson and I felt it time to breathe a breath of fresh air into the podcast, and change things up just a little bit, which actually served as the inspiration for this episode, comebacks and rebranding. While we are not going through a full rebrand, our comeback story is merely one of iteration, bringing you the familiar quality vibes wrapped in a fresh package…an evolution if you will. We address these things as well as other successful and not so successful comebacks and rebrands, and takeaways from many of those cases throughout history. We have all seen both failures, success stories, and everything in between, and thankfully, we get to learn from all of them. So whether you’re reinventing yourself, or just refreshing a logo and/or color palette, we explored the depths or shallows in which people and companies have sought to freshen up their image.
On this episode of the podcast, Anson and Chris connected with Kat McCoy, owner of New York based Jewelry Concierge service Best Kept. Kat’s mission is to take the stress out of buying fine jewelry, whether shopping for yourself or gifting a loved one. She has a true talent in matching clients with the perfect piece, sourcing from some of the finest purveyors around the nation. They talked about her prior career as a management consultant, and how her business acumen has helped shape her approach to working with clients on both sides of the jewelry deal. They talked about her process of finding the right gift, jewelry trends, sentimentality, and jewelry as an investment. It was a great conversation about everything jewelry.

On this episode of the Quality Goods Podcast, Anson and Chris were joined by multi-national DJ and Producer duo Colorica. Colorica is comprised of OG friend of the podcast and fellow QGer Danny Varela, and his long time friend and collaborator Alejandro Céspedes. The two have been casual collaborators in the studio and behind the decks for years, but it was 2021 that sparked the new creative partnership that took shape in the form of Colorica. The Californian Costa Rican combo bring some serious heat behind the decks and pack dance floors wherever they go. From the Bay Area to tamarindo and everywhere in between, they channel vibes that transcend language barriers and spiritual boundaries. As they bless dance floors with some serious grooves, they blessed the guys with their origin story, so you don’t want to miss this great conversation about some rhythm fueled dance parties and worldy house and techno heat.
