Service Delivery: Public Safety MMC Update On The Building Fire Incident In New Doornfontein
The Public Safety MMC in the City of Johannesburg Councillor Dr Mgcini Tshwaku updates the public about a reported fire at a building in the Doornfontein area yesterday morning. The Emergency Management Services (EMS) responded and upon arrival, the teams discovered that an electrical transformer had exploded, resulting in the partial collapse of a wall in the affected structure.
EMS personnel, in coordination with Fire Safety officials, swiftly assessed the scene and ensured the safety of all individuals present. All occupants of the building have been accounted for, with no fatalities reported, however three individuals sustained injuries and were transported to nearby hospitals by Gauteng Provincial Government (GPG) emergency medical services.
The fire has been contained, and there is no ongoing threat to public safety. The incident was successfully contained, and relevant investigations are currently underway. The cause of the transformer explosion is under investigation by authorities.
The building owners have taken immediate responsibility for site management and have engaged contractors to clear debris from the adjacent sidewalk and street, facilitating the safe reopening of the area.
