Calls for govt, private sector to invest in farming
Young farmers from Bizana in the Eastern Cape have called on the government and the private sector to invest in farming to eradicate joblessness and poverty in the area.
Unemployment in the region is rife and the Alfred Nzo district has been identified as the poorest in the country. The Mbizana-based organization, Youth in Agriculture and Rural Development, says scores of young people have taken an interest in farming. They say there are hundreds of hectares of arable land but there's a lack of support to utilize it and create employment.
