This week's topic is the master of all trades - the mathematician, logician, cryptanalyst, philosopher, and theoretical biologist Alan Turing! In case you don't know what a computer is, we've got it all laid out for you here - we try and make it easy, because this guy held the math brain cell all gay people share and refused to let go. Ernestine is the proof in the pudding - if you have a person who historians claim "couldn't be gay because they don't know what the word gay means", if you EXPLAIN what being gay means, it probably hits the nail on the head for them.  Moving to NYC in 1963 at the age of 22, she quickly wove herself into gay liberation groups and butted heads with them at a time when respectability politics and removing "being gay" from the APA as a mental illness were their top priorities. Join us while we moan about the Man, get frustrated with her about respectability politics, and exchange recipes on how to prepare the rich - we like 'em spit roasted! Welcome to the beach! We're bringing your toes to the sand today! To celebrate, Cory is presenting to us 3 "safe haven" towns, or vacation spots and towns that were a safe space for the LGBT community pre-Stonewall Riots: Cherry Grove in NY, Provincetown in MA, and Saugatuck in MI! Not only do they have rich history and culture - one town's history starts during World War I - but their legacies continue today, and should definitely be considered for a summer road trip. If you go, don't forget to dress up in your Dionysus costume and come carried in on a throne by several buff people!

It's episode 12! Today we're going back to the Revolutionary War! During a time period of religious enthusiasm, a future preacher awoke after a near-fatal illness proclaiming the previous self's soul had died and the body was recharged with the spirit of a Prophet, genderless and pronounless, named the Public Universal Friend.
Some claimed the Friend was a fraud, while most scholars now regard the Friend as an early figure of transgender history in Colonial America. Join us while we navigate through using no possessive pronouns, how the podcast almost turned true crime, and listen in when a spirit with a strong Southern twang came through Domenica while she was trying to pronounce "nonbinary".

Every time Domenica says she's doing a "quick summary" of anything, DON'T BELIEVE HER. That's how you get Queer Qulture's longest episode yet - episode 10, where your two hosts do the ol' switcheroo so it's Double Dimi back to back! Today she presents the relationship between Achilles and Patroclus, the doomed lovers from Homer's epic The Iliad (now known as Troy Story). It's usually not questioned that they were together, but rather the discourse - starting in the 5th century BCE - revolves around who was the top and who was the bottom.
