Welcome back everyone to another episode of Quest Fishing Adventures, and thank you so much for joining me for the July 2026 Update.

It's been another fantastic month on the bank, and I've got plenty to share with you. Whether you've been with me since Episode One or you've only just discovered the podcast, thank you for taking the time to listen. Grab yourself a brew, get comfortable, and let's catch up on everything that's been happening over the last few weeks.

This month has been a real mix of old memories, new adventures and exciting opportunities. I've spent some quality time doing a bit of float fishing for carp, and there's something special about watching a float disappear before lifting into a hard-fighting fish. Sometimes it's nice to keep things simple and remember why we fell in love with fishing in the first place.

One of the biggest highlights this month was being invited to visit VS Fisheries. A huge thank you to the team for welcoming me in and giving me a behind-the-scenes tour of their impressive fish farm. I won't say too much now because we'll cover it later in the podcast, but it was a fascinating experience and one I thoroughly enjoyed.

Of course, there were also a few more beautiful wild carp along the way. Every capture has its own story, and those are the moments that keep us coming back for more.

I've also taken the plunge and purchased another club ticket, opening up even more opportunities and new waters to explore over the coming months. New lakes always bring fresh challenges, and I can't wait to see what adventures lie ahead.

Perhaps the most nostalgic moment of the month was returning to where it all began. I headed back to the very first lake I ever featured on Quest Fishing Adventures in Episode One. Standing on those same banks brought back so many memories, and to go on and catch my first carp from that lake made the trip even more special. It really felt like the journey had come full circle.

So, in this episode we'll be talking about the float fishing sessions, my visit to VS Fisheries, catching a few more stunning carp, buying a new club ticket, and returning to the lake where the Quest Fishing Adventures journey first began.

It's great to be back with another monthly catch-up. June has been all about getting back out on the bank, making the most of the longer days and enjoying every minute by the water. This month we've been watching loads of carp cruising around the lakes, witnessed the incredible carp spawning once again, landed a lovely carp and a tench, and, more than anything, just had a brilliant time being out fishing.

As spring has rapidly given way to what feels more like the middle of summer, the lake has been changing almost by the day. The prolonged spell of hot weather has pushed water temperatures up, and with it, the carp have made some noticeable moves. Fish that were spending much of their time in the deeper water earlier in the year have now started showing up in the shallower areas, taking advantage of the warmer conditions and the abundance of natural food.

The warmer weather also brought one of the biggest events in the carp fishing calendar — spawning season. During the month, the carp got down to business, crashing around in the margins and reed beds as they spawned. As always, the welfare of the fish comes first, and that meant the lakes had to be closed for around two weeks while the fish completed the spawning process and recovered afterwards. It can be frustrating to be kept off the bank, but it's a vital part of protecting the stock and ensuring the fish remain healthy.

With the spawning now behind them and the fish beginning to settle back into their normal routines, I've turned my attention back to a swim that featured heavily in my plans at the start of the year. The signs suggest that many of the carp are now favouring the shallower areas, so I've restarted a major baiting campaign, putting plenty of bait into the swim and hopefully laying the foundations for some exciting fishing in the weeks and months ahead. It's one of those times where patience, preparation and confidence in your approach become absolutely crucial.

Away from the fishing itself, the lake has delivered a few memorable moments this month. One particular encounter with some rather imposing bulls certainly got the adrenaline pumping and reminded me that fishing isn't always just about what happens beneath the surface. Sometimes the most unexpected stories come from what's happening on the bank.

There's also been some fantastic work taking place around the fishery. A large work party has been busy planting new vegetation around the lake, helping to improve the environment for both the fish and the wildlife that call the venue home. It's brilliant to see so many people giving up their time to improve the fishery and invest in its future.

So, in this month's update, I'll be talking about the heatwave conditions, the carp's movement into the shallows, the spawning period and lake closure, the latest progress on my baiting campaign, my memorable encounter with the bulls, the exciting habitat work taking place around the lake, and everything else that's happened during a very eventful May.

In this update, I’ll be chatting about what I’ve been up to lately. It’s been a bit of a slower month in terms of actually getting the rods out, but that doesn’t mean nothing’s been happening. I’ve been getting things lined up for my upcoming France trip, which I’m seriously buzzing for, and putting some proper time into mapping one of my waters. That’s partly to build my own understanding of it, but also to put something together for the anglers in the club—giving them a better idea of what’s out there without completely putting it all on a plate. There’s also been a few work parties getting stuck in and giving something back. Even without much time behind the rods, that drive and buzz for fishing hasn’t gone anywhere.

March 2026 — let’s get into it.

In this episode, I’m bringing you a full update on everything I’ve been up to on the bank lately. There’s a big one in here… I finally picked up something really special at the show — something I’ve been after for a long time — and yeah, I couldn’t be happier with it.

We’ll also be talking about how the fishing’s been going over the past few weeks, including time spent on the lakes… and the big question — did I finally land my first carp of February? You’ll have to stick around to find out.

And looking ahead, there’s an exciting France trip coming up, so I’ll give you a bit of insight into the plans for that as well.

So yeah, plenty to get into — let’s get started.

In this episode, I tell the full story of how I caught my first 40 pound UK carp… and trust me, it didn’t just happen overnight.

This one had a proper build-up. The blanks. The second guessing. The quiet mornings on the bank when nothing shows and you start wondering if you’ve got it all wrong. I talk through the prep, the little signs that kept me going, the swim choice, the baiting approach, and that moment when everything finally clicked.

There’s a point in every angler’s journey where belief gets tested. This was mine. From watching the water like a hawk to making a call that could’ve easily gone the other way, this fish made me earn it.

And then the take came.

If you’ve ever chased a target fish, worked for something for months, or just needed a reminder why we put ourselves through the cold nights and early alarms, this one’s for you.

It’s not just about a number on the scales. It’s about the process, the doubt, the graft… and that feeling when you’re kneeling on the mat looking at a carp you’ve dreamed about.

This is the story of my first UK forty.

In this month’s update, I talk through everything that’s been going on behind the scenes as we edge closer to spring. One of the big things covered is the Fishery Managers Course I attended. It was a proper eye-opener and gave me a much deeper understanding of what really goes into running a fishery properly. From water quality to stock management, it’s given me a whole new level of respect for the people who keep our lakes ticking. There’s been plenty of prep work as well. I’ve been spending time walking the lake I plan to focus on this spring, watching for signs, learning the depths, looking at features, and generally trying to build a proper picture before I even think about getting serious with the rods. The older I get, the more I realise preparation is everything. I also cover the DO (dissolved oxygen) testing I’ve been doing on my lakes. Understanding oxygen levels and how they change gives you a real edge, especially heading into warmer months. It’s something I’m taking more seriously this year and I explain why. On top of that, I was involved in a work party, giving a bit back and helping improve the lake. If you fish somewhere regularly, it only feels right to chip in when you can. Fishing-wise, I managed to squeeze in a couple of overnighters during the month. Nothing crazy, just time on the bank, keeping the wheels turning and staying connected to it all. I also chat about the big Carp Show coming up in March. It’s the big one, and I’m really looking forward to it. Shows are always a good chance to see what’s new, have a chat, and soak up a bit of inspiration before the season properly kicks off. Alright, welcome back to the podcast and welcome to the January update.

I’ll be honest straight off the bat, this episode isn’t about big hits or hero shots, because January has absolutely not been that kind of month. I’ve only managed one actual fishing trip, and even that felt more like a reconnaissance mission than a session.

Most of January’s been spent doing what looks suspiciously like not fishing at all. A lot of walking around the lake, staring into the water like I know exactly what I’m looking for, chatting to other anglers, and convincing myself that every tiny ripple is definitely a carp. I’ve had the marker rod out, felt around for gravel bars, found a few decent spots, and generally tried to build a picture of what’s going on under the surface.

So yeah, not much time with rods out, but plenty of prep. Laying the groundwork, learning the water, and trying to stack the odds just a little bit more in my favour for when it actually counts. It’s not the glamorous side of fishing, but it’s all part of the game.

If nothing else, I’ve done enough “prep” this month to fully justify blanking later on.

After disappearing longer than a carp in crystal-clear water (last episode was May 26th, 2024 😅), Quest Adventures has officially returned.

Yep — life happened, rods got dusty, microphones went quiet… but the podcast is alive and kicking once again.
