Questions from the Unsettled Mind episodes
- Can I Believe in Neanderthals, Extra-Terrestrials, and God at the Same Time?
Pentagon footage of Navy pilots chasing UFOs; Neanderthal DNA sitting in the human genome. If other intelligent life exists, does human life still matter, and could God's plan stretch far enough to cover it?
In this episode:
• Why the angels already settle the question of whether God made intelligent life other than us
• The Incarnation as God entering matter, not merely becoming man, and what St Paul means by "the whole creation"
• How creatures who lived long before Christ, or live light years away, could be redeemed by what happened on earth
• Romans 4: Abraham before the law, David under it, the Gentiles after it, all saved by faith though each was given something different to believe
• Why the content of faith changes from age to age while its object never does
• What C. S. Lewis's Perelandra suggests faith might look like on another world
Mentioned: Neanderthals · the Pentagon UFO videos · angels · Romans 4 · Abraham · C. S. Lewis, Perelandra

If you’ve grown up with religion like I did, you’ve probably also felt from time to time that it just doesn’t add up. Certain questions haunt you at two o’clock in the morning, questions that…
whatever group you practice your faith with tends to frown upon. You don’t find the provincially acceptable answers at all acceptable. But however much these questions prove to be forbidden, your mind remains unsettled. You keep coming back to them—hesitant, worried, and sometimes even angry. I’ve spent my life tossing away the shackles of fear and facing these forbidden questions directly. I cannot understand why religious people should fear the truth, if the truth is supposed to set us free! So, let it out, I say. And I offer you here the fruits of my lifetime of labors, both in the hopes that you can profit from my struggles but also in the expectation that you might add something to inspire our other travelers still facing those anxious nights.
