Mental Health is considered a silent epidemic throughout our black and brown societies, due to substantial financial and systemic challenges.

This is where we get comments like depression is a rich persons disease.

Today we want to discuss the psychosocial contributors to the global mental health disparities in an African context, which include:

low priority/lack of clear mental health understanding; poor health infrastructure; insufficient number of trained specialists; culturally aligned assessment and treatment; stigma, discrimination and social, environmental and economic vulnerability with regards to mental health.
