  • Ep. 238 The Resilient Creative - A Conversation with Jamillah Robinson

A secluded creative from Philadelphia, Jamillah's path was shaped by her hands-on family and a traumatic event that led to her withdrawal. While raising two daughters, she honed her skills as an artist, photographer's assistant, and designer. Now, she reemerges, stepping in front of the camera to integrate her diverse, behind-the-scenes talents into her work.

  • Ep. 236 Fawziyya Heart

Fawziyya was born and raised in the heart of Philadelphia. She has been heavily influenced by the Philly music scene, which has changed over the years. Building long-lasting musical relationships on the scene and a pure love of music keeps her going daily. Her deepest inspirations are Nina Simone and Erykah Badu, and this is reflected in her music: a funk-infused blend of jazz, blues, and soul with anthemic lyrics calling for social change and self-transformation.

Fawziyya started on the Philadelphia music scene in 2012 by performing with various bands and dipping her feet in the music. She performed, recorded, and wrote several songs with global house music collective World Town Sound System alongside Grammy award-winning percussionist Pablo Batista (Alicia Keys/Grover Washington Jr).

For the last year Fawziyya has been hard at work readying her new EP, featuring her original songs and an array of Philly talent. The new songs are produced by Philadelphia’s legendary Chuck Treece, who remixed songs for Amy Grant and Sting and played bass on "The River of Dreams" by Billy Joel. Trap Rabbit's Logan Roth has co-arranged the songs and added his distinct sound to the tracks. Come along on this journey; explore this Philly songstress's mind through song and sound.

      • Ep. 233 Kayla Oh

Kayla Oh is an up and coming indie singer-songwriter studying contemporary voice at NYU. At just 19 years old, she has developed a stark, diaristic writing style that captures the experience of being a teenage girl: navigating first loves, overcoming heartbreak, grappling with insecurity and comparison, and simultaneously never wanting the teenage dream to end. These themes are the heart of Kayla’s songwriting and storytelling, helping her create music that is both achingly relatable and memorable. Her style is inspired by songwriting legends like Joni Mitchell, Phoebe Bridgers, and Stevie Nicks. Kayla admires and strives for the sort of writing that these women embraced, the kind that is unapologetically honest about womanhood while also being free from the pressure to remain "polite" or "ladylike". Though Kayla is a teenage girl and aims to write on behalf of them, a variety of listeners will connect with her lyrics and get hooked on her catchy melodies in a way that will make bad high school boyfriends seem universal.

Kayla is super excited to share her debut single, "See Through", set to release on October 6th.

Here's what she had to say about it: "I wrote 'See Through' about a relationship that ended right before we both went to college. It delves into that confusing feeling you experience when trying to move on from a person, where one moment it feels like you’ve fully healed and the next it feels like you’ve taken 10 steps backwards. At the time that I wrote the song, I was kept incredibly busy by the adjustment period that is starting college, and felt as if I’d healed from the breakup. The truth was, I had never really processed my heartbreak- and the healing I thought I'd felt was just the relief of being distracted. Writing 'See Through' was the first time I admitted to myself that I wasn’t as put together as I hoped to be. The result was a cathartic confession, and some of my most stark and relatable writing. Though I’ve come a long way in my healing since I wrote this song, I’m still really proud of what I was able to articulate then and hope the vulnerability I tapped into consoles listeners like it did for me".

      • Ep. 227 Vessna Scheff

Vessna is super excited to share the first single off this forthcoming record, "BUTTER", (+ the accompanying visualizer) set to release This Friday, September 29th! With mesmerizing vocal harmonies, shimmering 90’s to early 2000’s synths, and an 80’s club backbeat, 'BUTTER' drops you right into the feeling of swooning when you see your crush under the disco ball at the roller rink. Overtaken with feeling, you can’t help but brave your skates and make your way over to them, hoping you become 'smooth like butter.' "This song is inspired by a desire to feel playful, fun, sexy, and confident while navigating being a caregiver during the pandemic. I wrote 'BUTTER' inspired by Adult Skate Night (unofficially known as Black Skate Night at rinks throughout the U.S.) as a dreamscape of the freedom found on the rink" Vessna says. Together with her collaborator Lee Clarke, Scheff builds an electrifying current glistening with the anticipation and rush of pushing off the rink wall, and gliding into your confidence.

      • Ep. 231 Arden Alexa

Taking inspiration from Taylor Swift, Katy Perry, and the pop princesses who soundtracked her childhood and teen years, Arden Alexa's unique sound has been developed by infusing her own quirky and youthful indie style into the upbeat anthems she knows and loves.

Born and raised in San Francisco, Arden spent the after-school hours of her high school years cutting her teeth in the Bay Area music scene.

Her debut single, 2021's "The Coast" was the world's first glimpse of her artistic ability. This was followed by 2022's "Day Dreams", Arden's first full-length project: A six-song EP that truly welcomes you into her universe of raw vocals and deeply personal lyricism.

Since embarking on her journey as a full-time artist in June of 2022, Arden has been focused on polishing her craft and finding her sound, while also amassing over 20 thousand social media followers in the process.

With the releases of her latest songs, "Hello" and "Stupid Boy", Arden has proved her versatility and maturity as an indie artist.

Arden is super excited to share her new single + music video for "Petty Bitch", set to release on October 20th!
Here's what she had to say about it: "After a dramatic friend breakup left me feeling both sad and angry, I needed an outlet to help me get over the grief of losing my childhood best friend. My solution came in the form of this song. What began as just a joke (being mean to anyone is wildly out of character for me) quickly turned into a sort of therapy for me, a way to channel my anger into something so outrageously fun that I was able to work through my feelings about the situation. So, when listeners find that being the bigger person or wallowing in their grief isn’t working, I hope they can turn on this song, scream the lyrics (either privately in their room or directly at the person), and move on!”.

      • Ep. 230 Izzy Pingrey

At just 17 years old, New York City native Izzy Pingrey is using music as a diary to document her coming-of-age journey in real time. She first picked up songwriting at 13 during the loneliness of pandemic lockdowns, using it as an emotional outlet. Now a high school senior preparing to release her debut EP junior, Izzy’s confessional lyrics and energetic sound provide a vulnerable lens into the revelations and relationships of adolescence.

The four tracks on junior were all written and produced with her father during Izzy’s junior year of high school. The songs encapsulate the emotional whiplash of firsts that come with the teenage years. “sick of it” is about learning to stand up for herself, "narcissus" reflects on leaving behind old relationships, while "flatline" explores falling in love for the first time. “perfume” and its accompanying music video celebrate the close bonds of friendship and going out with her girls. As EARMILK raved about "flatline", "With its irresistible hooks and Izzy's signature fervor, the track invites listeners into a world where vulnerability is celebrated and authenticity reigns supreme."

Though sonically diverse, each song on junior finds a home in the evocative whirlwind the EP explores. The collection pays homage to the quintessential experiences of young adulthood. junior provides a poetic musical diary of Izzy's life so far, offering a cathartic release of emotion that will resonate with listeners navigating the common stumbles of adolescence.

Izzy is beyond excited to share her debut EP  junior  and the music video for "perfume"that are out now!
Here's what she had to say about the project: "Each song on this project represents specific events or emotions that I felt for the first time during my junior year of high school. Being 16 and 17 is (and was) an extremely pivotal time for me- I learned how to stand up for myself (sick of it, narcissus) I fell in love (flatline) and went to my first party and became even closer with some wonderful people (perfume), all for the first time. It was also in this time that I truly began to write and record music that I wanted to put out, that I wanted to give people a chance to hear and to connect with. The songs on
