  • The only person that can create change is yourself
The lesson that I repeatedly learned is that the only person that will lead to change in somebody is themselves.
Another way to say this is that you cannot force somebody to change, it Hass to be a process that happens within somebody’s in mind.

  • Self love is central to your ability to keep going
The most important trait that I think helps me go every day, despite all the adversities, that you experience, is self-love. It’s such a squishy term, and it’s often mistaken as a treat.
The fact is, self-love requires training and development. It requires you to recognize that you’re good enough, that you do need to take time for yourself, and that all of the things that you feel guilty about like watching television, being on your phone, and all of the guilty pleasures are actually healthy.
Self-love is the essential quality that helps me face each day, even when life feels like a slog and is full of obstacles. This term is often misunderstood and seen as an indulgence, but it's more than that.
Developing self-love takes time and effort. It means realizing you're good enough, setting aside time for yourself, and embracing guilty pleasures like watching TV or using your phone without feeling guilty. These activities can be healthy in moderation.
We all have a little demon inside of us, whispering doubts and making us feel imperfect. Instead of trying to banish this demon, we should learn to manage it and accept our flaws. Doing so allows us to continue pushing against life's challenges.
Life will always be a slog, but the way you handle it through self-love makes all the difference in whether you keep going or not.

  • How Different Are We?
many of us, believe that we are very distinct from the world around us, but if you start analyzing us in terms of basic principles, as if you were a physicist are in ecologist, you’ll start to see that there’s not a lot of difference between who we are in the rest of the world.
Why then do we draw these differences within our own species, and why do we think that there are even really that relevant?

  • Do slow and tedious work every day
I've come to understand that our expectations of progress and quality work often follow a linear path.
However, the reality is that improvement is more like an #exponential curve. It becomes increasingly harder to reach higher levels and produce better work.
For example, the difference in rigor between competing at a middle school level and a university level is vast.
So, how do we cope with the exponential difficulty of #competing at higher levels?
The solution I've found is to focus on slow, steady, and consistent work, while blocking out the outside world. Many people won't understand the tremendous effort required to advance at increasingly higher levels, and may assume it's easy.
It's crucial to remember that the journey does become exponentially more #challenging.
Nonetheless, taking slow and steady steps is the only effective strategy I've discovered to keep moving forward.

  • On the nature of being human
We have to recognize that humans are not necessarily well-intentioned.
When I was younger, I used to think most people are well-intentioned, and they have other people in their mind.
However, as I’ve gotten older I realize that this is far from the truth. People can be mean just to be mean.
    This is real #humanity.
If one thinks about the army of professions that help us deal with others, such as lawyers, psychologists, and teachers, we realize that all of us struggle to play well with others.
Fundamentally, my views have changed so much that I even wonder how we all even stay together at all.
It is a miracle that we accomplish anything thst requires coordination.

  • Embracing technological change in digital social media
Most of us are nervous, or find it difficult to embrace, technological change. I personally believe that much of this nervousness is because social norms are changing, and we don’t know how to deal with that technological change. The change in the social norms leads to anxiety as we are challenged in how we deal with uncertainty.
We can either believe that technological change is not going to happen, or we can start to embrace it, and realize that it’s actually is happening. For example, being public and open and digital social media is a strange and weird thing to do, but, as we embrace it, we realize that it’s not as scary as Wen would think. The transition to using platforms in a positive way is challenging, but they are likely is considerable benefit, if we embrace it more fully.

  • The absurdity of being human in financial decisions
Humans have a charming way of making seemingly peculiar choices, especially when it comes to finances. We might spend ages deciding on a pack of gum, yet barely think twice before making significant financial commitments. It's fascinating how we can approach monumental decisions like choosing a school or getting married with such nonchalance. Imagine if marriage proposals came with a request for due diligence beforehand!
It's essential to acknowledge and embrace the delightful absurdity of human nature. We have a unique ability to leap into the unknown with a carefree spirit, despite the potential consequences. This whimsical approach to life can lead to surprising and rewarding experiences. As we continue to navigate the complexities of financial decision-making, let's remember to appreciate the remarkable, unpredictable nature of human choices, and how they can bring both joy and learning opportunities into our lives.

  • Thinking about the transition to a more efficient energy economy
In my latest podcast episode, I discuss the potential of transitioning to an efficient energy economy that aligns with our current infrastructure. 🏗️🌱
It's crucial to recognize that this change is not likely to stem from massive overhauls, but rather from small, incremental adjustments to our existing systems. 🔧
Some "energy-efficient" solutions might not be as effective as they seem. As I explore in the episode, gradual and subtle changes can actually lead to significant impacts today. For instance, installing solar panels on every house might be too costly, but improving insulation and promoting the switch to LED lighting could be more feasible. 🏠💡
Additionally, I touch on the potential of smart systems that can enhance efficiency by optimizing the management of our electrical grid. ⚡🌐
Check out the episode to learn more about these fascinating concepts and join the conversation on sustainable energy! 🌍✨ #podcast #energyefficiency #sustainability #infrastructure #smartgrid
