لوک گیتوں کا نگر یاد آیا
آج پردیس میں گھر یاد آیا

جب چلے آئے چمن زار سے ہم
اِلتفاتِ گُلِ تر یاد آیا
۳
تیری بیگانہ نگاہی سرِ شام
یہ ستم تا بہ سحر یاد آیا
۴
ہم زمانے کے ستم بھول گئے
جب ترا لُطفِ نظر یاد آیا
۵
تو بھی مسحُور تھا اُس شب سرِ بزم
اپنے شعروں کا اثر یاد آیا
۶
پھر ہوا دردِ تمنّا بیدار
پھر دلِ خاک بہ سر یاد آیا
۷
ہم جسے بھول گئے تھے جالبؔ
پھر وہی راہگزر یاد آیا

habib jaalib was born in a small village in hoshiarpur district. In his late teens, when the family migrated to the pakistan side of the border, it is possible that he remembers it and means his birthplace as home and that it is known for its folk-songs. In this context he considers lahore ‘foreign’ or ‘away from home’ and remembers the folk-songs of his birthplace.
