Laws for Omer Gatherings and Celebrations
During the period known as the Omer, weddings are generally prohibited. However, other celebrations such as birthday parties, anniversary parties, engagements, and general get-togethers are permitted at home. The key restrictions for these permitted events are that music is not allowed and, based on one authority cited, dancing is also forbidden. Singing, though, is permitted during this time. These limitations on music and dancing are observed as a sign of mourning during the Omer period.
