The first reading of the Torah has important lessons in life, not just stories. From the question God asked the first man after eating from the fruit he was not supposed to eat, we can extract an eternal lesson for us.

Tanya: Chapter 16, first partThis class teaches Tanya, Book of Beinonim (intermediate people). This is the most basic book of Chabad Chassidism by the Alter Rebbe, Rabi Shneur Zalman of Liadi, of blessed memory. This class explains that even when a person cannot develop love and fear for God, still can serve Him completely.

This class explains that there are two general levels of intermediate people: one that serves God and one that does not serve Him.
