Many, many evangelical Christians think that Jesus was a great teacher but not God. Many also think that Jesus was a great being “created” by God. This is the backdrop for this episode, as we want to think of our triune God properly.

On today’s episode we talk about thought on Jesus’ nature and the triunity of God by looking into the 4th century. Here we find the Nicene Creed and a man named Athanasius, both responding to a man named Arius and his influence. Why is this creed important and why is Athanasius still significant today? We read “the beginning of the gospel of Jesus Christ” (1:1) and discuss the first chapter of Mark’s Gospel, ranging from the Old Testament framework of the first few verses to Jesus’ baptism, temptation, and early ministry.

Now after John was arrested, Jesus came into Galilee, proclaiming the gospel of God, and saying, “The time is fulfilled, and the kingdom of God is at hand; repent and believe in the gospel.” (Mark 1:14-15)

Thank you for joining us as we kick off season 2! In this episode we begin thinking about the Gospel of Mark – asking and answering, who wrote the Gospel according to Mark? What are its major themes? What happened between the Old and New Testaments? How should we think about the kingdom of God? Next Monday we will jump into Mark 1.
