This week marks twenty years since rapper Tupac Shakur was murdered. The rapper was shot dead on the streets of Las Vegas in Los Angeles. His family had originally intended for his ashes to be buried in Soweto, which they considered to be the birthplace of his ancestors. Meanwhile, two decades later, still no-one has ever been brought to justice for his murder. And the story of his death is now being taken on by Hollywood directors, years after the case closed. Voices calling for President Jacob Zuma to complete his term of office are starting to emerge. This follows a wave of calls for his resignation after the damning Constitutional Court decision against him in March and the poor showing of the ANC in the local government elections. The Black Business Council and civil society group Black Land First have come out this week in defence of President Zuma, citing his efforts to transform the economy. The Zimbabwean Police have re-imposed a ban on public demonstrations in the Harare Central Business District. It is expected to last until the middle of October. Efforts to rescue the trapped illegal miners at a disused mine in Langlaagte, south of Johannesburg are underway. Last night the rescue teams were hard at work trying to locate an undisclosed number of illegal miners since who have been underground since last Thursday. Estate agent Penny Sparrow has made a tearful apology in the Scottburgh Magistrate's Court for her racist remarks on social network that sparked a public outcry. Commenting on a social network post about litter on KwaZulu-Natal beaches after New Year's Day, Sparrow called black people uneducated monkeys. The apology is part of a plea bargain with the state on a charge of crimen injuria. It comes after the Equality Court found her guilty of hate speech earlier this year. Teachers' union SADTU in the Western Cape has called for a boycott of systemic evaluation testing at schools. Learners in grades 3,6 and 9 write the mathematics, numeracy and literacy tests annually in October to test their level of competency.
