Hopes of an imminent cure for HIV/Aids are diminishing following statements by leading researchers at the International Aids Conference in Durban. South African Human Rights Commission (SAHRC) has expressed concern about what it says is government's waning commitment to international law and human rights. The organisation has written a letter to International Relations Minister Maite Nkoana-Mashabane, cautioning against reported plans to withdraw from the International Criminal Court and questioning voting decisions at the United Nations. The Constitutional Court will this morning hand down its much-anticipated decision in an affirmative action case lodged, for the first time ever, by a previously disadvantaged group. A group of coloured employees say they were unfairly overlooked for promotion within the Western Cape Department of Correctional Services because of the colour of their skin. The case concerns the Department's Employment Equity Policy and the fact that it does not take into account regional demographics. Senior constitutional court reporter Candice Nolan reports

African Union Heads of State will decide this week whether to expand the mandate of the United Nations Peacekeeping Force in South Sudan. Rwanda's Foreign Affairs Minister Louise Mushikiwabo says the latest fighting in South Sudan - the world's newest nation - will be given priority when African Presidents meet in Kigali. The mandate of United Nations Mission for South Sudan will expire at the end of this month, but there are proposals for an extension until the end of August and also the expansion of the troops' mandate to include combat. Recent clashes in the capital Juba left more than 270 people dead. Sarah Kimani reports from Kigali
