What's the buzz? A case of common assault has been opened with police after an altercation that took place at Crowthorne Christian Academy.

A video that has been doing the rounds on social media sparked outcry after it went viral, showing a man pushing a 13-year-old learner and woman at the school.

It is believed there was a dispute over the learner’s dreadlocks. The video shows the Grade 8 learner being forcefully removed from class for allegedly wearing hair extensions, something the school took issue with due to a new hair policy that was implemented.

• The Education Department in Gauteng revealed that it was assisting the school to comply with its registration policies as the school is not fully registered with the education department.

The two-day Multi-Party National Convention is underway in Kempton Park, East of Johannesburg. Seven political parties - the DA, IFP, FF Plus, ActionSA, United Independent Movement, Spectrum National Party and Independent South African National Civics Organisation have converged to craft a pre-election plan with the aim of forming an alternative government to the ANC following next year's elections. A municipality building has been allegedly set alight in Swellendam, Western Cape. Community members are protesting against a lack of service delivery. The N-2 highway at Swellendam in the Overberg region of the Western Cape is currently closed and traffic is being diverted through the town. Reports suggest that protesters laid burning debris and rocks across the road. Sakina Kamwendo spoke to Overberg Municipality executive mayor, Andries Franken
