First Thing is First | An emergency meeting between Johannesburg Water and the Water and Sanitation Ministry is taking place on Monday. This is an effort to resolve the water crises in Gauteng. Johannesburg's Commando system remains highly constrained.
It crashed on Sunday due to Rand Water diverting supply from the Eikenhof to the Palmiet system.
Residents are being urged to observe the Stage 2 water restrictions and not to use hosepipes to water gardens, wash cars or clean driveways.
Water and Sanitation Minister, Hon. Senzo Mchunu, has committed to increase the bulk water allocation to the Rand Water system as an emergency measure to address water shortages in the Gauteng metros, district and local municipalities.
Currently, Rand Water abstracts 4400 mega litres of water and has already exceeded this allocation by over 1600 megalitres since the beginning of the spring season.
