First Thing is First | ROAD TO ANC ELECTIVE CONFERENCE

The ANC in KwaZulu-Natal has endorsed Zweli Mkhize to run for party president.They also endorsed Paul Mashatile for deputy president. KwaZulu-Natal went against former president Jacob Zuma, who on Tuesday again called for the ANC structure to endorse Nkosazana Dlamini-Zuma instead.

• He has thrown his hat into the ANC leadership contest ring   by telling party branches on Monday evening that he was available for the position of national chairperson of the governing party. 

• Zuma also made clear his position on the leadership race by endorsing his ex-wife Nkosazana Dlamini-Zuma as party president. 

• In a four-page letter dated 26 September, Zuma said he had been in consultation with leaders of the ANC who had sought his views on the conference and what needed to be done to rebuild the ANC.

• Eastern Cape, Northern Cape, Gauteng, Limpopo and Mpumalanga have already endorsed Ramaphosa to retain his position. Western Cape, North West and Free State are yet to declare their favourite for the top position

• A total of 4,250 voting delegates are expected to participate and vote at the ANC’s December elective conference.

• KwaZulu-Natal, which has a total membership of 136,267, will send the biggest delegation to the conference, 877 delegates, followed by the Eastern Cape, with 684 delegates, and Limpopo, with 613. The Northern Cape will have only 239 delegates and the Western Cap 283 delegates.

A 15-year-old girl who was held hostage and
gang raped has died after being turned away from a

Today marks World Tourism Day. The day
coincides with Tourism Month in South Africa, which is
celebrated annually across the month of September. We
now speak to Tshifhiwa Tshivhengwa, CEO of the Tourism
Business Council of South Africa.

Health minister Joe Phaahla is expected to
outline a comprehensive report this week on the impact of
load shedding and measures to be taken by health
facilities. This comes after the Health Professions Council of
South Africa called on hospitals and clinics to
be exempted from the load shedding schedules. We now
speak to Foster Mohale who is the Health Department
spokesperson.

Former president Jacob Zuma has come out in support of Dr. Nkosazana Dlamini Zuma for the ANC presidency at the party's 55th elective conference in December. In a statement by the former president, Zuma says he's available for the chairperson position if nominated by ANC branches. Coming out a short while ago, the ANC in KwaZulu-Natal has come out endorsing former health Minister, Dr Zweli Mkhize for the party presidency. Party secretary, Bheki Mtolo elaborates.
