The Durban Magistrate's court has granted R3000 bail to 20 alleged instigators who have been charged with public violence in relation to last year's unrest in parts of KwaZulu-Natal and Gauteng. The Hawks say efforts by a multi-disciplinary team led to the arrests in parts of KwaZulu-Natal, Gauteng, North West, Free State, Western Cape and the Northern Cape.It is alleged that the suspects used social media and other platforms to incite public violence. Over 350 people died as a result of the violence, with R50 billion lost in damage to businesses and infrastructure. For more on this we are joined on the line by SABC Reporter, Nonkululeko Hlophe.
