Black African-headed households has the highest levels of subjective poverty across the poverty measures. According to Stats SA's study on poverty in the country, 30,5% of black African households perceived themselves as poor, while 57,4% reported a per capita household income not exceeding their desired minimum income required to meet the household's needs. Statistics SA released its study on poverty today. Sakina Kawendo spoke to Isobel Frye, Director of Studies in Poverty and Inequalities Institute.

First Thing is First | The Alex Dudula Movement is embarking on a five day shutdown that started on Monday. The shutdown, is apparently aimed at driving out all undocumented foreign nationals in the area, and  would continue until their demands have been met.

• The movement said foreigners were responsible for rising crime levels, drug dealing and stealing jobs from South African citizens.
• In video footages shared on social media, shops were closed and hawkers tents uprooted.
• The Dudula Movement only operates in Alexandra, while Operation Dudula was focusing on other areas in Johannesburg.
• Some people were injured during a standoff between members of the Alex Dudula Movement and foreign national hawkers

The industry holds many opportunities for the youth because it is faced with an ageing workforce. Young people can easily enter the plumbing industry as the minimum requirement is Grade 9.

The Pluming Industry Registration Board (PIRB) wants to educate people on the different jobs within the plumbing industry.
