ARTS: Theatre and dance creatives held a silent protest outside the ANC’s Luthuli House earlier this week. The group is calling for Covid-19 restrictions to be amended for their sector. They handed over a memorandum of demands to an ANC representative and gave the ruling party 14 days to respond. We’re now joined on the line by one of the people who was part of the protest; Gregory Maqoma, Founder and Creative Director of the Vuyani Dance Company.

INTERVIEW: The Liliesleaf Farm Museum is closing down due to financial difficulties. The announcement ironically comes at the start of Heritage Month. However, the Department of Arts and Culture has responded by saying Liliesleaf has been funded in the range of R70 million over a period of 13 years. For the 2020/2021 financial year, an additional R1,8 million was budgeted for the trust. The department further claims that there was mismanagement of funds allocated to the upgrading of the facility to the tune of R8.1 million. The museum closed its doors on 31 August due financial difficulties. To respond on this, we’re joined on the line by Nicholas Wolpe, Founder & CEO of The Liliesleaf Trust.

She started with a Facebook group when she was 16 where she would send information on vacancies.
