Radio Frequency Identification (RFID): What is it? Radio Frequency
Identification (RFID) technology uses radio waves to identify people
or objects. There is a device that reads information contained in a
wireless device or “tag” from a distance without making any physical
contact or requiring a line of sight.

The KZN department of Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs is currently in Utrecht visiting families affected by the recent floods. We’re now joined on the line by Sboniso Mngadi, spokesperson of the department.

Frustration is mounting amongst parents as some learners have yet to be placed in a school, a day before the start of the first school term tomorrow. In Gauteng parents have been queuing at the Education Department district offices as they scramble to find a school for their children. The Allianz Risk Barometer for 2024 has identified critical infrastructure blackouts which include power disruptions and aging infrastructure tops South Africa business risk for this year.  The Barometer is an annual report, which ranks business risk and threats to business globally. Critical infrastructure blackouts have emerged as the number one risk for businesses in South Africa for the second consecutive year highlighting the severe impact of power outages and the failure of essential infrastructure such as ports, railways, roads and more on the economy and businesses. Two cholera cases have been detected in Musina and Senwabarwana in Limpopo. The Provincial Health Department  says the positive cases were detected at the Musina and Helena Franz hospitals. The patients who are  from Zimbabwe, had been admitted at the two hospitals upon their return from the festive season holidays. Members of the public are urged to remain vigilant. The department of Basic Education says it is ready for the re-opening of schools tomorrow. Schools in parts of the country are expected to commence the 2024 academic year on Wednesday. Sakina Kamwendo spoke to spokesperson for the Basic Education Department, Elijah Mhlanga.
