As of yesterday Rand Water implemented the credit control measures at Emfuleni reducing water pressure due to the non-payment for services rendered.

Irregular expenditure topped R1.1bn in the 2018/19 year as a result of the municipality failing to comply with supply-chain management regulations or the Municipal Finance Management Act which set out the required process to solicit competitive bids and quotes.The municipality incurred irregular expenditure of R670m. 33 of its current and former employees, as well as private companies, are now being fingered.
The Emfuleni Local Municipality has announced that it will be taking “steps” to recover misused funds totalling at least R670 million by 33 of its current and former employees, as well as private companies.
Emfuleni’s supply chain management and the fleet department employees are among those implicated in a report by forensic investigation company Comperio, which revealed massive looting within the municipality during the past five years.
