The Lesotho National Assembly has reconvened after elections. Former Speaker of the 2012 -2015 parliament Sephiri Motanyane was elected unopposed as Speaker. And all 117 of the 120 members were sworn-in, while the other 3 will be elected in by-elections Nthakoana Ngatane reports.

The SABC's former COO Hlaudi Motsoeneng is no longer an employee of the public broadcaster. The SABC interim board says it has notified Motsoeneng of its decision to accept the recommendation that he be dismissed. This follows a disciplinary hearing against Motsoeneng after he held a media briefing in April. He has since been found guilty of bringing the public broadcaster into disrepute. Residents of Knysna in the Western Cape have spent the second consecutive night outside their homes as raging fires continue to dominate the Garden Route. Fire fighters and defence force members worked troughout the night, trying to contain the fires, fanned by strong winds. A number of people were evacuated after the fire gutted 50 shacks in White Location. Victims are accommodated in various halls and schools across the town. Sagree Chetty filed this report
