The Gauteng health department has commenced with the preparation for the relocation of mentally ill patients from the controversial NGO's to appropriately equipped facilities. Health minister Aron Motsoaledi and Gauteng's newly appointed health MEC Gwen Ramokgopa announced in a media briefing in Pretoria. They say police are also conducting forensic investigations on 19 unclaimed bodies, believed to be that of the mentally ill persons who were moved to the NGO's from the Life Esidemeni facility. Tropical storm Dineo is continuing to strengthen as it moves through the Mozambique Channel. Along with hurricane force winds, Dineo is expected to produce extremely heavy rainfall over much of southern Mozambique before it moves westwards towards eastern Limpopo and Mpumalanga on Thursday. The Kruger National Park is among areas expected to experience heavy rain as well as localised flooding. When President Jacob Zuma promised jobs in his State of the Nation Address in Parliament last week, he sparked a great deal of heated debate among South Africans, about how that is to be achieved. Political analyst Prince Mashele commented that the president actually expected the jobs to come from white South Africans because it is white South Africans who create jobs, and not black people. An ANC councillor, Nosipho Makeke-Tyobeka and a Police Major-General, Sandra Malebe-Themba, are among people who were allegedly operating illegal NGO's that housed psychiatric patients from Life Esidimeni. The Gauteng Democratic Alliance (DA) Shadow Minister for Health, Jack Bloom says, the Police General who is also the Executive Chairperson of the Re-Bafenyi Victim Empowerment Centre (RVEC), is the same person who resigned from the police in 2013 after being investigated for misconduct, but was employed again in 2015 after acting commissioner Kgomotso Phahlane took office. The forensic investigator, Paul O'Sullivan says the courts must deal with the police who arrested him despite a court order saying the police must give him 48 hours' notice to report to a police station. O'Sullivan was arrested yesterday afternoon in Centurion on charges of impersonating an IPID officer, after leaving his attorneys. The arrest allegedly relates to his investigations into acting police commissioner, Kgomotso Phahlane's eight million rand house. O'Sullivan was released just after midnight after his legal team brought an urgent application for his release based on the court order of November 2016.
