Dr Matthew Raphael Johnson revises and updates his previous work on the Slavophiles
Dr. Johnson's first book, The Third Rome: Holy Russia, Tsarism and Orthodoxy, came out on the Barnes Review Press in 2002
One of its chapters dealt with the intellectual life of the Slavophiles, and another on Nicholas I. This was a singular era in Russia constantly misunderstood by the Anglo-American academic
This lecture is a substantial revision to those two seminal chapters in a book which served as an outline for the rest of Dr Johnson's career
