Jazz Aspen began in June 1991 as a small 3 day event. Over time they grew to add a second multi genre outdoor event in Snowmass Town Park in 1996. JAS ( Jazz Aspen Snowmass ) continued to grow through the years, adding music education programs for local public school students as well as high level career training for gifted young artists.

In 2012, The 501 C 3 Not for Profit organization JAS launched a new intimate nightclub at the prestigious 5 star Little Nell Hotel in Aspen , called the JAS Cafe, which has quickly earned a permanent spot on the busy Aspen culture calendar, with year round jazz and world music concerts in both winter and summer.

JAS is now in its 27th Season

She has also served as the President of the Board of Wilderness Workshop, as the Development Director of Roaring Fork Outdoor Volunteers, and as the Legal Director and Co-Founder of Public Counsel of the Rockies, a public interest law firm specializing in environmental matters. Karin is also a published nature and outdoor adventure writer and photographer, and a self-taught almost-expert on Rocky Mountain wildflowers.
