Welcome to the first RCL #FeatureFriday! On these special Friday's, RCL hosts and contributors will be dropping special little extras into your podcast feed on whatever is on their minds. You never know what you'll get on a Feature Friday; heck, we don't know what you'll get most of the time. That's the fun of it--if you open your favorite podcast app on a Feature Friday, you'll know there's a surprise from us waiting for you!
For the first Feature Friday surprise, we're bringing back a beloved staple from the latter part of the live show era: a segment we called Tim's Tirade. Our friend Tim O'Conner pops in for the feature's podcast debut to provide his unique perspective on the life and death of Rush Limbaugh, including some historical background on why Rush's show was so revolutionary, how Tim helped introduce Rush to the Tallahassee market, and what Rush sounded like in the early days of his talk show--a sound that, sadly, many of his younger listeners were never able to enjoy. Fun fact: Did you know Rush was once known as Jeff Christie, a top 40 DJ in Pittsburgh? Tim has an aircheck!
If you've listened to country music on the radio even casually, whether you've known it or not, you've probably heard the legendary voice of our guest on this special episode of RCL. John Willyard is a veteran voiceover artist who has been heard on stations in almost every major market, on the CMA Awards, on WWE broadcasts, and on CNN, just to name a few. John joins Jamie, Preston, Chris and Tim to share his story, swap fun facts, impart wisdom, and give us a glimpse into the off-air worlds of some of the legends he has worked with over his many years in broadcasting. To learn more about John and listen to his work, check out www.johnwillyard.com.
Note: We are elated to announce that John will be joining us again next week for Part 2 of our conversation! If you have questions you'd like us to ask him, send them in to [email protected] before Tuesday, March 9.
Today the American radio landscape was shaken with the sudden announcement that Rush Limbaugh, who singlehandedly pioneered the syndicated conservative talk format, passed away at the age of 70 due to complications of lung cancer. On this special tribute episode, Jamie and Preston are joined by 3 friends of the show--AJ, Chris and Danny--to reflect on Rush's legacy, their personal memories of listening to his one-of-a-kind show during its unprecedented 32-year run in syndication, his impact on radio, and what talk radio will sound like without Rush on it.
On this week's episode of RCL, we welcome in a new member to the radio connection family, Adam! We also discuss how radio stations want you to download their app, or follow them on social media.
We also answer the question: How many radio apps do you need on your mobile device?
Finally, we say RIP to the great Larry King, and we also talk about how Iheart Media is really creating the future of radio.
Hope you enjoy this episode, don't forget to subscribe, leave us a rating, and spreading the word and radio love!!!
