On Saturday, May 20, 1978, at 2:50 p.m., Billy was finally called to a contact again after a break of around a month and a half. Unfortunately, only some of the core group members were present that afternoon. When he got on his moped, dressed in boots, leather jacket, hat, the then-obligatory weapon, and the handheld radio, the members present slowly streamed together and gathered on the large seating area, where the meeting was often held on warm days.
Everyone present — that is, Kalliope (Billy's wife, called "Popi" by everyone), Maria and Engelbert Wächter, Guido Moosbrugger, Herbert Runkel, Dölf Berroth, Olgi Walder and Margaret Flammer, Marcel Hirt, Elsi Moser, Jacobus Bertschinger and me, as well as Silvano Lehmann, who was staying with us for a week on vacation at the time — was waiting for the things that were to come. To put it somewhat bluntly, you could also say: "When the cat is away, the mice will play," because none of us thought about lifting a single finger. We waited anxiously for Billy so that after the contact we could, as usual, immediately grill him about everything new. Some people might also have been secretly hoping that "the boss" would perhaps call from far away on the radio and that they might even be able to pick him up.
None of the members standing together and chatting expected what actually happened next. Suddenly there was static on the radio that was installed in Jacobus's car, and Billy called out over the radio: "Hello Miranos 5, Miranos 5, report in!" Popi ran to Jacobus's car, grabbed the microphone, and shouted excitedly: "Miranos 1, Miranos 1, what is it?" A
