(Full Audio) - University Vice President and Director of Athletics Jack Swarbrick sits down to discuss the latest in Fighting Irish Athletics.
Segment 1: Introduction
Jack, senior football captain James Onwualu and senior softball pitcher Rachel Nasland discuss a number of happenings in Notre Dame athletics, including the Fighting Irish Fight For Life signing day that took place on Wednesday. Rachel also provides a recap of the opening week of fall softball, including her scoreless outing against National Pro Fastpitch team the USSSA Pride last Tuesday, and the group looks ahead to the Syracuse football game.
Segment 2: Jack sits down with singer and songwriter Todd Rundgren, who is currently on the Notre Dame campus as an Artist in Residence. Rundgren has released over 20 albums during his recording career, and is well-know for the popular 1983 arena hit "Bang the Drum All Day." Rundgren has also toured with Ringo Starr & His All-Starr Band, and worked as a producer alongside Grand Funk Railroad and Meat Loaf. Rundgren will be performing live in concert at the DeBartolo Performing Arts Center on Oct. 1.
Segment 3: Jack and James talk with Notre Dame swimming head coach Mike Litzinger. Litzinger assumed control of both the men's and women's swimming programs in December of 2015, marking the first time since 1995 Notre Dame has had a combined swimming program. Litzinger previously served as head coach of both the men's and women's programs at the University of Utah (2000-07) after seven seasons as head women's coach at St. Bonaventure University (1989-1996). He was an assistant coach at the University of North Carolina from 2007-15, serving as associate head coach his final four seasons.
Segment 4: Jack and Rachel catch up with junior volleyball middle blocker Sam Fry. Fry was named to the all-ACC second team in 2015 after being included on the conference's all-freshman squad during her first season. Fry enters this weekend tied for the ACC lead in service aces (0.45). The Irish face Duke on Sept. 30 and Wake Forest on Oct. 2 at Purcell Pavilion.
Segment 5: Conclusion
Jack, James and Rachel preview the upcoming Notre Dame athletics schedule, which includes key regular season events for football, volleyball, men's and women's soccer, swimming and cross country, and the opening exhibition game for hockey at the Compton Family Ice Arena on Oct. 2.
