Anne is an LBR contributor and a New London regular Hugh Birdsall performs with his bands the Reducers and Dogbite. FlyinFisch—Flow—Always Dreaming. Adrian Fischer creates joyful soundscapes with spiritual outlook. This is his second release with FlyinFisch. The Proud Flesh—Tiny Picture Frame—Tiny Picture Frames. The Proud Flesh features the songwriting of Alexander Burnet and Patrick Dalton. It's a spooky kind of Americana that easily bears multiple listening sessions. Daphne Lee Martin & Raise the Rent—Old Guitar— Dig & Be Dug. Daphne's been singing since she was a kid, and made her first recording when she was 17. Her travels took her to New York and on the Clearwater before settling in New London. The songwriting on her CD Dig & Be Dug is timeless. Relative Souls—Sanity's a Virtue—Nebulous. This Bridgeport rock-funk outfit has undergone some personnel changes, but they continue to play hard and regularly. Thanks for listening. Radio Golden Podcast Ep 5. on Local Band Review We're back with a little more from New London and the Good Sponge compilation, a couple of Hartford bands, and some up-and-comers from Westport. Enjoy! 1. The Sue Menhart Band - 18 Again. Sue is a Whalie winner and multiple nominee. 2. Little Ugly - Radio's Blues. I enjoyed their music so much on the last podcast, I had to go back for more. 3. The Paula G Reality - Wild Man. Originally playing around the area as Kinkslip, this band recently put out an EP. The quartet features vocals by Paula Gallo and the distinctive moog bass of John Lamb. 4. Michael Cleary Band - When You Get Back. The MCB is Hartford's best-kept secret. They are celebrating their 20th year of making original Groove/Funk/Rock music with a twist. In 2009 MCB was voted Best Jam Band in the Hartford Advocate Readers poll and they are previous winners in the Best Rock and Best Blues category Thanks for listening. It's been a busy week or so since the last podcast, but here's the latest installment. We're emphasizing a couple of tracks from the recently released Good Sponge Sampler, featuring music from the New London area. 1. Carl Franklin – Waiting for the Summer to Come. Carl is not only a skilled audio engineer, but a musician as well. He plays drums, bass, piano, guitar, and sings. 2. The Rivergods - Squeezin'. They call themselves “a roots/folk/alt.country/ whatever outfit.” This is a nice song about one of my favorite things. 3. Matt Miklus and Friends – Long Time Coming. Matt's been around the Connecticut scene a long time, best known for his guitar playing in Hubinger St. He's more of an acoustic guy now. You can hear Matt with the Nameless Trio live on the Sunday Brunch Concert, April 29, 1:00 PM on WPKN 89.5. 4. Little Ugly – Bag of Bones. The Hartford Advocate's 2011 Grand Band Slam winners show their songwriting prowess here. This is acoustic rock at its finest. 5. Daria Musk – Ghost. Daria is a singer-songwriter with an incredible voice. She unlocked the potential of the Google+ “hangout” feature, and quickly found a global audience. I hope you enjoy these tracks as much as I do. Welcome to Episode #3. This podcast features more songs, shorter songs, and faster songs.   Brian Jarvis – Beautifully Broken. This Hartford artist has just released a new CD, the hauntingly personal “Beautifully Broken.” Guy Malone Band –Hey La. Power trios are hard to pull off, especially with a jam band sensibility, but these guys have been doing it all over the Northeast. Pools Are Nice – Dear in the Headlights. This bit of surf punk comes from the Orange-based band's EP “Then You're Thinking Too Much.” Fatgrip – Coach Purse Drama Girl. Don't we all know someone like this? Fatgrip is from theHartford area, playing catchy rock songs. The Backyard Committee – Winter Trip. This track really grabbed me, and I thought I'd better include something that sounds more in character with my programming. ThisNew Haven band performs songs written by Mike Sembos. This is the first installment of the Radio Golden Podcast on Local Band Review. It's also my first time doing a podcast, and I'm still trying to find a format that's engaging for you and comfortable for me. I'd love to read your comments. The enhanced podcast format looks pretty spiffy in iTunes and Winamp.   Here's what's in Podcast #1: Adela & Jude - I Don't Know. This brother and sister duo from Boston has a unique style. He plays guitar, she plays pump organ and accordion. They both sing. I may be stretching the boundaries of  "local band review," but this band is too good to ignore. The Fret Notz - Absinthe. This Watertown violin power trio is the brainchild of the ridiculously prolific Bob Pickett. Just listen and go to their web site. I can't even talk about it. Frank Viele w/Rob Somerville - Anticipation. Frank is an up-and-coming performer whose full band has to be experienced live. He stopped by the WPKN studio one day, and Rob Somerville (Kung Fu, Deep Banana Blackout) showed up with his soprano sax. What happened next was unplanned, and is one of the joys of doing live radio. SolarSet - No Regrets. Back to Watertown for this rocking quartet. These relative unknowns are worth checking out. I hope you enjoy the music. If you have comments, please share them with me.
