  • Tennis With An Accent: Louisa Thomas of The New Yorker
This week on Tennis With An Accent, Saqib Ali is joined by Louisa Thomas, a published author and contributing writer at The New Yorker magazine, where she has written about tennis for several years. She had written about tennis at Grantland since 2011 before the website closed down.
She and Saqib discuss WTA World No. 1 Naomi Osaka, whom she recently interviewed for Vogue Magazine,  and the other players she likes to write about. Ms. Thomas speaks about magazine-based tennis writing, as a reality which is separate from deadline-based instant analysis or on-site reportage. Thomas also talks about women’s tennis as a source of empowerment for women, and on the complexities of today’s younger tennis personalities and the need to not lump all players into the same group.

  • Dark To Light With Frank & Beanz: To Dowd Or Not To Dowd
Today is a very special day in the “Dark to Light With Frank & Beanz” universe! We want to thank all of you who have been with us this past year, and we make an exciting announcement in the beginning of the show. We really appreciate all of you.
Once all of our formalities are out of the way, we go on to analyze the John Dowd interview (Part 1 and Part 2) with Byron York, and talk more about the Special Counsel investigation and where it is headed now. We play a few clips for you in regard to the new developments in both the Mueller investigation as well as what may be turning over in the case of General Flynn. Could it be possible that the Special Counsel will also be scrutinized by Michael Horowitz, and could Stefan Halper and his role as a US Intelligence asset be more sinister than we originally imagined? Also, what part does Wikileaks have to play in all of this?
After that, we lighten things up just a little and Frank shows us just how good he is at “unredacting” and move on to the elephant in the room that is Joe Biden.
We loved having you for this episode and we will see you really soon (hint hint) on the “Dark to Light” podcast with Frank and Beanz!

  • We’ve Seen That: Blue Chips
It’s special double feature week for our 80s and 90s movies podcast for the #FinalFour. We already brought you the Indiana high school basketball classic, “Hoosiers” starring Gene Hackman. Now we graduate to a great college basketball drama for this edition of our show, as it’s in its 25th anniversary in 2019, “Blue Chips.”
Nick Nolte stars as “Coach Pete Bell,” who has to decide whether to compromise his ethics and beliefs in breaking the rules/illegally paying players to get his once powerful, “Western University” back to being a great program, again? The movie revolves around the recruitment of characters played by 90s college and NBA stars Shaquille O’Neal and Penny Hardaway and how they can make “Western,” and coach Bell, become a power, again.
Plus, we have two special guests joining T.J. and Jay this week. Jesse Holley, a former Dallas Cowboys football player who’s now in the DFW media, is on the back on the show. That’s because, he’s also a former NCAA Basketball Champ in 2005 playing for North Carolina. Jesse gives great insight and humor into what he experienced and what still goes on with trying to secretly pay players like in the move. Next, Kevin Rogers, Sr. Handicapper at VegasInsider.com, and T.J.’s co-host on the “3 Dog Thursday” podcast, couldn’t wait to come on as a guest to talk about this film. Kevin is a huge fan of all things 80s and 90s and gives his own opinions on the storyline and actor portrayals, etc.
Sit back and enjoy reminiscing about the 90’s and big time college hoops with “Blue Chips” on We’ve Seen That!”
