Dr. Hafsa Kanjwal is an Assistant Professor of South Asian History at Lafayette College.Her Phd, from the university of Michigan in Ann Arbor, was on the social history of the modern Kashmir.

Tariq is joined by Radio Islam Cultural Contributor Layla Abdullah-Poulos who gives us a recap of the Black Muslim Authors Round-table which she moderated, and was held at New York University. The event was centered around the connections between Black Muslim Authors today and the literary tradition of Black Authorship in general.

In the second half the two talk about: convert or born Muslim, and the historical importance of African American women in community life and how that impacts African American Muslim women's representation in literature.

Chicago is headed to a Mayoral run-off election in April and history will be made no matter who wins. The top two vote-getters in the February 26th election were two African American women, former federal prosecutor Lori Lightfoot and current Cook County Board President Toni Preckwinkle. Tariq offers thoughts on low voter turnout, the remaining candidates next steps, and shares the vision of both candidates (as stated on their websites).

Say What? You may be likely to say just that as we discuss where the bulk of President Trump's ire was directed, self-destructing Empire television star Jussie Smollet, or white supremacist Coast Guard officer Christopher Paul Hasson who is accused of plotting assassinations of high profile elected officials and media figures.

Say What? R. Kelly, whose sold more than 75 million records world wide in his career but can't post a $100,000 bond after being charged with a litany of sexually related offense-- we're zeroing in on the economics not the court case. This scene sounds eerily similar to countless other Black artist who found themselves victims of industry exploitation and died poor. How does this relate to today's young rap artists?
