Each year, several thousand people (maybe several millions) celebrate all kinds of food – just think of South Africa’s ‘Braai Day’, or Heritage Day.
Some of these occasions are healthier for us to acknowledge or participate in than others. For example, in December, USA citizens will observe National Roast Suckling Pig Day, but also Eat a Red Apple Day1.
In the UK, during November, there’s the 2020 Veg Pledge, which is urging citizens to go vegetarian for the month to raise money for cancer research, but also #InternationalStoutDay.
And coming up next year, we have World Nutella Day (February 5), National Chocolate Mousse Day (April 3) and Eat What You Want Day (May 11), and also Stop Food Waste Day (April 29), World Water Day (March 22) and Sustainable Gastronomy Day (June 18).
“But right now, it’s time to feed your gut,” exclaims Evexia Pharma director, Cameron du Toit. “This week, November 1 to 7, celebrates your digestive tract and the microorganisms it contains. Specifically, this week focuses on prebiotics, which are – quite literally – food for your gut3,” he says.
