BRICS nations now include six new countries by Radio Islam

Natalie Yamb - Cameroonian-Swiss activist and businesswoman, known for opposing France's actions in Africa, spoke to Radio Islam expressing her pride in having two more African countries join the bloc. She also mentioned that Russia’s Sergei Lavrov suggested Ethiopia be included.

Yamb provided her opinion on Morocco choosing not to attend the summit adding that BRICS and the global South were characterised by inclusiveness.

Minister of Safety & Security, Bheki Cele - speaking at the BRICS Summit on the challenges and successes in ensuring the security of all at the summit.

He responded to several questions including whether South Africans could expect to have the same level of security after the event.

Prof David Monyae, of Political Science and International Relations and Director for the Centre for Africa-China Studies (CACS) at the University of Johannesburg, spoke to RII at the BRICS Summit 2023 on the expansion of the bloc as it welcomed six countries – Ethiopia, Iran, Saudi Arabia, the UAE, and Argentina, the currency to be used by the BRICS countries, the forthcoming BRICS summit in Russia and the success of this event.

This morning, the third and final day of the BRICS Summit 2023, President Ramaphosa and his BRICS counterparts addressed the media, having reached a consensus on the expansion guidelines of admission to BRICS.

This was after 23 countries expressed interest in joining the bloc. Russian President Vladimir Putin delivered a closing statement via video link and lauded Ramaphosa's diplomatic skills in handling the negotiations, including the expansion issue.

Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi has reiterated his country's full support for expanding BRICS membership. He made the remarks during his address. Xi says the expansion of BRICS is a new starting point for BRICS cooperation and to further the cause for world peace and development.
