In the story of Abram and Sarai, we see how they are not sure they can trust God to give them the children He has promised. The couple takes matters into their own hands and this leads to a lot of trouble. Like ourselves, who may sometimes struggle in the same way to trust God, we have learned this mistrust from our first parents, Adam and Eve. Notice, however: Mistrusting God did not work out well for them either. And neither does it work for us. Into this very human condition, comes Our Lady. She ponders all that she knows about God “in her heart”. This is to say that she prays. And here is the lesson: To counter the tendencies of the world, to be carriers of peace, in order to first have peace in our own heart, we too must pray about what we know about God.

Karen Sigler is the general manager at the Rhoda Wise shrine based in Canton, Ohio. She will discuss the Rhoda Wise House and grotto, a nonprofit organization dedicated to preserving the legacy of Rhoda Wise. Wise is considered a mystic and stigmatist known for her spiritual gifts and healing miracles, who converted from Protestantism. In 1939 she claimed an apparition of Jesus and Saint Teresa brought her complete healing from an incurable stomach cancer. Later on, hundreds have reported healings through her intercession and her canonization cause is under Vatican review.
