Summary
Dr. Antone Raymundo and Father Jeffrey Coutoure discussing the theological implications of the Transfiguration. They explore the event as described in the Synoptic Gospels, emphasizing the significance of Moses and Elijah’s appearance as representing the Law and the Prophets fulfilled by Jesus. The conversation expands to include discussions on the afterlife, particularly purgatory, presented as a place of healing and purification rather than punishment, and the vital role of prayer for the dead, especially through the rosary, in assisting souls. They also touch upon St. Dominic, the Luminous Mysteries, and various biblical and theological concepts related to salvation and divine grace, illustrating how these elements are interconnected within Christian faith.

Our Lord Jesus could have appeared with anyone. Why do Moses and Elijah appear at the Transfiguration? Dr. Brant Pitre suggests that these representatives of The Law and The Prophets were two who experienced theophanies of God and that this is the reason. They each longed to see God’s face, but were not able to do so. Not until Jesus Christ came. For the Christian, our ability to see God fully revealed in Jesus Christ, is reinforced by the fulfillment of the longing of Moses and Elijah. They longed to see God’s face. They were finally able to do so. We should ponder this fact when we consider who Jesus Christ is.
