Following King Solomon’s death, Jeroboam led 10 of the 12 tribes away from God. They no longer enjoyed God’s blessings. Into their difficult lives, God sent Elijah to draw them back to himself. At the time, however, King Ahab was not interested. He did not believe God would send a drought, or perhaps had convinced himself that he was not harming the people. Only after 3 years of drought and famine were the people ready to return to God. In a similar way, those who are today disappointed or even angry that their leader did not prevail, need our intercession. Yet, be ready. Like Elijah, we may be accused of having caused their trouble, that we are the reason their plans can no longer be realized. Yet, like Elijah, we must refute this accusation forthright. Furthermore, we must reveal, by God’s grace, the beauty and goodness of God’s plan. It is only His Commandments and His Church that lead mankind to find its happiness.
