By many measures, society has come upon serious times. Pope Francis recently reiterated a personal belief that “God wills a diversity of religions.” This has left listeners around the world wondering whether or not Christ is necessary for their salvation. There is also the grave situation in American society where two attempts have been made within 60 days to murder a presidential candidate. These should trouble us greatly. However, it is worse than that. RR Reno observes* that following the news of another assassination attempt, we seem to “pick up where we left off”! Clearly, we are failing to comprehend the severity of the danger. CS Lewis describes** the severity of the danger we face rather colorfully: “We laugh at honor and are shocked to find traitors in our midst. We castrate and bid the geldings be fruitful.” Let us take better stock of the times.
