Radio Mike

Twins. Often, they're so similar and like-minded that they get along like two peas in a pod. Try telling that to CatDog, a siamese Cat & Dog that are forced to try and live their lives together, despite being completely different. CatDog was part of Nickelodeon's collection of unique, absurd cartoons in the '90s, alongside Rugrats, Fairly Odd Parents, The Angry Beavers and Hey Arnold! So what is it about CatDog that makes it stand out amongst the rest?

Plus, Mike seeks help from the show's newest employee, Reporter Mike, to analyse the depth and destruction caused around the nation after Facebook & Instagram's well publicised outage. Editor Mike describes in great detail the current state of his marriage, while Intern Mike complains that listeners don't believe he is real.

Mike creates evolutions for his hypothetical Pokémon 'Straya Edition starters: Eukoala, Kangaworks & Platypuddle, and The Boys take to the skies on broomsticks in the next chapter of Harry Potter & The Boys, 'Flying.'

The King of Pop is ingrained in Western Popular Culture and has been for decades now. So, in light of recent revelations, is it possible to boycott one of the most successful musicians of all time? Mike discusses the logistics of 'cancel culture' and why it's borderline impossible to forget about Michael Jackson any time soon.

A listener of the show sits in on the podcast recording and proves to be more trouble than good, leading Intern Mike to trying his first cigarette on the show, while Mike introduces a brand new segment, 'The Shittest Thing,' and reveals the starter Pokemon for the podcast's Australian based Pokemon games, Pokemon Get Fucked Version & Pokemon Nah Righto Mate Version.

Plus, the epic seventh chapter of Harry Potter and the Boys sees things take a crazy turn as Derrick is expelled by the Sorting Hat.

Heaven. It's a spiritual, cosmological, transcendent place where you hang out with all of your dead relatives on clouds and reminisce about how good being alive was. But what's so good about heaven? And would you really want to exist somewhere infinitely for the rest of eternity? Mike talks about the problem with the afterlife and why oblivion is ultimately a better option.

Editor Mike talks more about his marriage while Intern Mike chooses to avoid the discussion entirely. Mike talks about the newly announced entrants in the Pokemon franchise, Pokemon Sword and Shield versions, and reads the next chapter of his Harry Potter fan fiction, Harry Potter and the Boys. (Chapter 6 - 'Sorting')

The Japanese adjective 'warui' translates to bad. Waluigi's name is literally a combination of 'bad' and 'Luigi.' So why is it that this lanky, go-kart driving, tennis playing, golfing, purple overall wearing sociopath is not considered one of Nintendo's 'all-star' characters? Mike takes you live into Waluigi's therapy sessions, breaching all ethical considerations around patient confidentiality (with a cameo from stand-up comedian, Lewis Spears).

Plus, Mike introduces a brand new incentive to engage with the show, while also talking about the negative effects of Twitter and clickbait 'news' websites on our ability to form unique opinions.

And, Chapter 5 of Harry Potter & The Boys - 'Welcome to Hogwarts,' where we meet the titular character for the first time.

According to Wikipedia, a jack post is a steel post used in the construction trades for temporary support of ceilings, walls and trenches. Despite this, the jack post sitting beside me for the duration of this podcast has broken all expectations of jack posts, not unlike Finn, the rogue Stormtrooper from Star Wars Episode VII, who defied all expectations of Stormtroopers.

Jack Post is a creative mastermind. He's currently a presenter on Gold 104.3's breakfast show, The Christian O'Connell Show, but he's perhaps most well known as the 'button pusher' and third character on The Hamish & Andy Show.

The boys chat their radio journeys, and talk about how a small band from Oakland, California became one of the most successful punk rock groups in the world. Plus, Jack reads Chapter 4 of Mike's Harry Potter Fan Fiction that he wrote in year 7, Harry Potter and the Boys. (Chapter 4: The Eventful Ride on the Hogwarts Express)

We've all been there. Laying up in bed all night, unable to sleep, and pondering life's biggest questions.

"Is there life after death?"

"What is the square root of a billion?"

"Will my car fit through that gap?"

"Who let the dogs out?"

But most importantly, "Who the hell is Radio Mike?"

The story of how a young boy called Michael became Radio Mike involves a journey of Harry Potter fan fiction, a notorious choir scholarship, several identity crises, a failed arts degree, a number of chance encounters and a yellow kombi van...

Thanks to Jack Post, who continued to motivate me during the production of this podcast, and pushed me to perservere when I couldn't make up my mind, Lewis Spears, who encouraged to me to start this podcast in the first place, and Luke Kidgell, who helped me believe I was capable of doing it.
