A new series of programs where guests read excerpts from books set in Berlin - Today Mim King reads from Mary by Vladimir Nabokov.
This episode was recorded and edited by Adrian Shephard.
Situated in the former East Berlin, but still in the east of Berlin lies the Baumschulenweg cemetery. It's a place of stories, personal stories that only the close relatives know, but also stories that have entered world history.
Jason Honea and Rinus van Alebeek went there to find out about one of the secrets the DDR regime tried to hide from their population, but they discovered so much more. The visit became an excursion.
All sounds and conversations were recorded and edited by Adrian Shephard.
Radio On historic #15 was recorded 22.05.25
An evening of Poetry and Culture at Curious Fox bookstore, celebrating the launch of Tabkha - A cookbook of 20 recipes, each one illustrated by a different artist, Tabkha was created by chef Mona Zahed while she lived in a tent having been displaced from her home in Gaza.
'We are delighted to be joined by one of the illustrators, Dee Mulrooney, for the Berlin launch of this beautiful book and celebration of Palestinian cuisine and culture.'
All proceeds from sales of the book go directly to Mona and her family.
The Open Mic Situation is an initiative from some of the residents of Haus 17, Lausitzer Platz, Kreuzberg to bring the neighbourhood together to share poetry, spoken word, stories, music and ideas. We hope it will be a monthly occasion.
