This Wednesday marks exactly 65 years since the first production of Prague’s legendary Semafor Theatre, established by the song-writing duo Jiří Suchý and Jiří Šlitr. The musical comedy, called Člověk z půdy or The Man from the Loft, was an immediate success, sparking a new era of Czech theatre.

Kjell Moberg is the director of NIE theater which is an international theater company that performs in a wide range of countries, focusing on current day themes and stories. NIE has its home base in Czechia, Norway and the U.K. I caught up with him last week and asked him to tell me something about the performance that he is bringing to Prague called “No One Stays Behind” (Jeden a Jeden a Jeden).

New Leaf Czechia is a new project that aims to help the country’s homeless people with large, one-time financial donations. The Plzeň Zoo has revealed that one of its rare Aldabra giant tortoises laid 31 eggs earlier this month. If the eggs hatch, it would be a global sensation, as this species has successfully bred in captivity in Europe only once before.
