  • Sculptor Štipl shows intricate new works in Prague
    New works by Czech-Canadian sculptor Richard Štipl are currently on display in the joint exhibition Incarnation at Prague’s DSC Gallery. Štipl, whose often hyperrealist, intricate pieces have brought him international renown, is showing his mainly wooden sculptures and reliefs alongside the top Czech glass artist Rony Plesl.

  • World’s longest suspension bridge built in Moravia
    Construction workers in the mountain resort of Dolní Morava in the northeast of the Czech Republic are completing a suspension bridge above a local valley at a height of 95 metres. Called Sky Bridge 721, it will be the longest bridge of its kind in the world measuring nearly three quarters of a kilometre. The suspension bridge should open to visitors in the spring of next year.

  • Rita Klímová: Story of An Exceptional Woman
    Rita Klímová started out as a staunch young communist who helped to build a totalitarian regime in the 1950s. A decade later she was among the most enthusiastic reformers who tried to change the system during the Prague Spring of 1968. After being expelled from the Communist Party, she turned dissident and was one of the key people who helped to jumpstart the democratic reforms of the 1990s.

    The short animated film Love, Dad by Diana Cam Van Nguyen has picked up several international prizes and recently qualified for the 2023 Academy Awards. The FAMU graduation film centres on the troubled relationship between the Czech-Vietnamese director and her father and is built around letters the two exchanged when she was a teenager and he was in jail.   • Czech Roma social worker gets prestigious UK teaching award
    Czech Romani social worker Petr Torák, who is based in the English town of Peterborough, has received the prestigious Silver Pearson National Teaching Award, handed out by UK’s Teaching Award Trust. Mr Torák received the prize along with Lynn Mayes, principal of the local Queen Katherine Academy, for their joint project called The Roma – Narrowing the Gap Team.
