With 11 medals in total, four of them gold and four silver, the Czech Olympic Team has achieved the best result in the history of the independent Czech Republic. The country finished in the 18th spot in the international medals ranking at the Tokyo Olympics, just behind Poland.

MPs have passed a landmark proposal that would make it illegal to place children below the age of three into institutional care. In practice, this means that infant care centres (kojenecké ústavy), would cease to exist. At the same time, MPs have voted to raise state subsidies for foster parents.

The Lennon Wall Story is a new museum that tracks the history and art of one of Prague’s major attractions. Located just a few hundred metres from the famous Lennon Wall itself, the museum seeks to entice visitors with dozens of photos, historic objects, Beatles memorabilia and a half hour documentary about the history of the wall, known for political and artistic expression. The Czech National Archive has made a unique acquisition. After years of negotiations, last week it took over the personal belongings of legendary Czech protest singer Karel Kryl. Apart from all sorts of documents and sketches, they include the guitar he played at his very last concert.
