King James Onlyism and Biblical Preservation | Isaiah 40 and Matthew 5

How should Christians think about the King James Bible, King James Onlyism, and the preservation of Scripture? In this episode of Memorable Monday with Rocky Stevenson Pastor of Benoni Bible Church, we examine the history and claims of King James Onlyism and offer a biblical and historical response grounded in God's promises to preserve His Word.

We distinguish between loving the KJV, preferring the KJV, and the more extreme claims of King James Onlyism. We explore the testimony of the King James translators themselves, the history of the various KJV revisions, the Textus Receptus, the growth of manuscript evidence, and the role of textual criticism in recovering the original wording of Scripture.

Most importantly, we consider what the Bible actually teaches concerning God's preservation of His Word. Scripture points us to confidence in the God who preserves His truth rather than in one particular English translation.

Key passages include Isaiah | 40:8, Matthew | 5:18, Luke | 1:1–4, and Acts | 17:11. We also discuss manuscript history, the King James Version, the Legacy Standard Bible, and why faithful translations can be appreciated without elevating one to inspired status.

Join us as we celebrate God's remarkable faithfulness in preserving His Word throughout history and reflect on why confidence belongs ultimately in the Lord who gave the Scriptures.

Joy is usually found in what we can see and what is present with us. But Christian joy is able to delight in what is both unseen and future. How is this possible? We find out from 1 Peter 1:6-9.
