New Zealand's latest world champion Tom Walsh won gold but also lost a bet following his winning effort in the shot put at the World Athletics Championships in London yesterday.
The 25-year-old became the first New Zealand male to win a medal at the World Athletics Championships and joins Dame Valerie Adams (shot put titles 2007, 2009, 2011, 2013) and Beatrice Faumuina (discus in 1997) as New Zealanders to win world titles.
Despite winning gold, Walsh told Radio Sport Breakfast that he lost a bet with coach Dale Stevenson after failing to beat his personal best in the final.
Walsh revealed if he beat his best ever effort, Stevenson would have to get a tattoo. But he fell short meaning Walsh will need to get some ink, possibly of a butterfly or love heart since it's of his coach's choice.

He said he doesn’t think Gatlin is a legitimate champion because of his doping history.

Kemp said a definite no to the potential signings of Adam Blair and James Graham, Betham said no to Blair but yes to Graham, and Skipwith understands the scepticism but thinks the club needs to go to the market to look at players.

Crockett said the team has taken some learnings from their performance against the Hurricanes last weekend and they're confident they will deal well with the issue of playing at altitude in Johannesburg.

Lions coach Johan Ackermann believes a northern hemisphere referee should have been chosen to control the Super Rugby final if SANZAAR had opted for neutral referees.
South African Jaco Peyper will referee the final between the Lions and Crusaders after Kiwi Glen Jackson took charge of the Hurricanes Lions final last year.
Ackermann is happy for the top referee in SANZAAR to be appointed no matter which country he is from, but can understand the call for neutral officials given the enormity of the match.
He told the Radio Sport Breakfast it must be a French or Irish or English ref who is not at all involved with the teams during the round robin.
