The Herrin House of Hope is holding its Family Fun Day fundraiser to continue its mission of serving neighbors in need.

The Herrin House of Hope is a unique soup kitchen since it operates as a sit down restaurant. Volunteers become waiters taking lunch and dinner orders for those who stop by for a free, hot meal.

Since 2013, the organization has served more than 400,000 meals. The Herrin House of Hope wants to keep that number growing.

As a way to raise funds, the group will hold its 13th annual Family Fun Day. It's held just like a fair where you buy tickets and then use those for the fun activities listed below:

The event is being hosted at the Community of Faith Church on Sunday, September 8th from 12:30 to 6 p.m. The event is rain or shine.

State Senator Terri Bryant joined WXAN to talk about the issues at Menard Prison. Her office has received numerous reports of staff and inmates being exposed to illicit drugs. She attempted to access Menard prison on August 30th to ask questions of the front line staff and administration. She was denied access and is calling on the IDOC Director and Governor to take action.

Illinois State Senator Terri Bryant joined WXAN to talk about various issues that her office is dealing with. The first segment deals with the Department of Corrections, other segments are regarding the RNC in Milwaukee, Sen. Bryant's "Hometown Tour" and the Aviation Program at SIUC.

Gay Eisenhauer joined WXAN to talk about the upcoming Gold Star / Veterans event at the DuQuoin State Fair. This coming Sunday, August 25th at the Exhibition Hall.

Wesley Perkins is the Vice President of Crucial MRO, a company that does the maintenance, repair and overhaul of commercial airliners. They are expanding at the SI Airport, and opening a component shop in Murphysboro at the former Curwood Building.
