It's the 10th Episode of the RadyCAST!

On our final episode of 2025, Karla Berbrayer returns to the show. Karla is the producer, and founder, of the "Music 'N' Mavens" program. This afternoon series of concerts and guest speakers has been delighting folks at the Rady for over 25 years, and the 2026 season promises to be one of the best yet.

Karla and Chris talk about what's in store, and give you a sneak preview of the opening acts of Music 'N' Mavens 2026 - including the all new evening, "After Dark" concerts.

Then, Sarah and Katya drop by from our Aquatics department to help us take the plunge into the swimming and aquatic fitness options at the Rady.

In today's programming segment, Dan Waldman is in studio to talk about the newest drop-in program at the Rady, "Men's Shed." Dan talks about the need for programs that address the need for connection among older men and the way this program has become a global phenomenon from its origins in Australia.

Hanukkah is right around the corner, and at the Rady JCC, the celebration is already starting.

On this episode, Chris invites Tomer, Natali, and Karolina from the Programming department to talk about what's in store for Hanukkah in and around the Rady JCC.

Then, we take a few minutes, and talk about our Hanukkah memories, from Chris' blended family holidays, to Natali and Tomer's recollections of the holiday in Israel, and Karolina telling us about Hanukkah traditions in Poland.

Later, while taking a brisk walk (necessary from just THINKING about latkes ...) Chris connects with Lindsey for Fitness Corner and we find out about Winter fitness coming up at the Rady, as well as Lindsey's very own Hanukkah challenge for her fellow staff, making sure everybody remembers to get up, get moving, and celebrate the holidays with new healthy habits.

Winter Fitness Classes (Registration starts December 17)

How do you celebrate over 60 years of Jazz history? The answer is one of the most anticipated concerts of the Izzy Asper Jazz Performance season!

Charlene Diehl, music producer for the Izzy Asper Jazz Performances returns to the podcast to talk about the upcoming African Rhythms Alumni Ensemble concerts happening at the Rady on November 29 & 30. Host Chris Allinotte and Charlene talk about the group's origins playing with legendary jazz pianist Randy Weston, and how they are bringing that spirit and, yes, African Rhythms to the Berney Theatre stage.

Later, Tomer Levy returns to talk holiday programming at the Rady, including not one, not two, but FOUR Hanukkah events.

Lindsey G and Chris get together in the gym for fitness corner and discuss what's coming up in Winter Fitness programming, while Chris tries not to fall off a giant exercise ball. (Which you can totally tell in this audio format...)

JFest WPG has come and gone, and to all indications, it was a huge success.

But the fun doesn't stop at the Rady JCC, and this week, we're talking teens. Specifically, BBYO. Jonah Posner, Regional Director of the Red River Chapter of BBYO in Winnipeg stops by the pod to talk about this incredible youth organization, and how it continues to foster community, leadership, and faith for thousands of young people around the world every single year.

In this week's fitness corner, Chris leaves the desk and goes walking around the Rady track with Lindsey while they talk Fall and Winter fitness programming.

What is "The Jewish Soul of Rock N Roll?"

So many iconic bands and recording artists and the songs they've created have come from Jewish individuals - Geddy Lee, David Lee Roth, Gene Simmons, Leonard Cohen, Bob Dylan, Carol King - the list goes on and on!

During JFest WPG at the Rady JCC, Flatland Famous is bringing these hits to life at a concert specifically curated for the event.

In this special episode of RadyCAST, Chris sits down with Lisa Windsor of Flatland Famous (also known to a lot of Winnipeggers as the house band for the Jets - Mach 10) and we discuss the band, the show, and musical inspiration through the ages. It's a great conversation, and it's going to be an even better concert!

Flatland Famous

We're just one week out from the nine-day extravaganza that is JFest WPG.

On this episode, Chris connects with Hadar Maoz, who seamlessly blends Persian and Bukharian traditional music and instruments with modern-day Western blues, motown, and funk. We caught up with Hadar on tour in Germany ahead of her performance here in Winnipeg on November 3.

Then, Natali and Tomer return to keep the JFest WPG info coming with a spotlight on whole-family activities like our musical Shabbat dinner with Dr. Marky Weinstock on Friday, November 7, and Yeladudes! KidFest that will take over most of the Rady facility on Sunday, November 9, and feature a concert, crafts, science, and even a singalong party to K-Pop Demon Hunters!

In our Fitness Corner this time around, Michelle Reinheimer joins the podcast to talk about Sano Therapy, a dedicated practice inside the Rady JCC campus offering athletic therapy, osteopathy, hot-stone massage, and more!

It's hard to believe we're already halfway through October! That also means that we're just 3 weeks away from the start of JFest WPG! This festival of Jewish culture runs from November 1 - 9, starting with a concert at Seven Oaks Performing Arts Centre by Israeli superstar Keren Peles!

On this episode of the RadyCAST, Chris speaks with Karla Berbrayer, musical producer for JFest WPG, who gives us some insight into the three incredible concerts on offer this year. Later, you'll get some insider details about the visual arts extravaganza that kicks off JFest WPG at the Rady on November 2. “Jazz is music at the speed of conversation,” says Charlene Diehl, Producer of the Izzy Asper Jazz Performance series. Improvisation is at the heart of jazz, which meansthat no two performances, even of the same songs, are the same way twice.

The Jazz series at the Rady JCC’s Berney Theatre begins on Saturday, October 5th, which is the upcoming weekend when this episode of the podcast airs. Today Chrisis joined by Laura Marjovsky, Program Director of the Rady JCC in the podcast booth to discuss Benny Benack III, Jocelyn Gould, and the exquisite performances that we’re looking forward to this Fall and Spring. Later, Charlene Diehl drops by to talk about the ins-and-outs of jazz itself and why this is such a compelling musical style (and why you should come check it out for yourself!)

In the Fitness Corner, Lindsey is accompanied this week by Rose van der Hooft to share Fall fitness goings-on, and shine a special spotlight on our new Mindfulness for Stress Reduction class that begins later this month, and is led by Rose.
