Road Accident Fund CEO Collins Letsoalo says the fund cannot afford to pay out foreign nationals who suffer injuries during accidents on the country's roads. He says the government-funded scheme, which provides compensation to victims of motor vehicle accidents, cannot provide cover to foreign nationals as it is simply unsustainable. The Fund published a directive last year stating lump-sum payments would not be paid out to people who were in the country without valid documentation. This directive, is currently being challenged in court by Zimbabwean national Adam Mudawo. For more on this, Elvis Presslin spoke to Advocate Simba Chitando, An Advocate of the High Court of South Africa.
