Sagewolf Interviews

Rainbow a.k.a. G-Man a.k.a. Grandpa Bones a.k.a. Don: Tie-Dyer / Chef / Hunter / Generous Motherfucker

Listen Later

It sounds like we’re in a dead show parking lot - and we are - in our own little universe created by Rainbow.
Minus the drugs.  And the transient kids selling grilled cheese (takes one to know one).  We are sitting in a booth surrounded by rainbows of tie-dyed fabric all around us.  The joy on people’s faces as they enter the booth is priceless.  This conversation continued well beyond the recording to reveal Rainbow's professional Chef life, which overlapped the beginning of his tie-dyeing.

Interview highlights:
+ 30 years of Grateful Dead shows
+ rock and roll influences
+ siblings are the original influencers
+ consciousness and community
+ thousands of hours
+ teaching so the art form won’t die
+ keeping your hands busy
+ self-expression through art
+ do what you love
+ coming from supportive parents
+ giving things away returns more
+ wearing a G-string on a date
+ hoarding for visual inspiration
+ living in a lane that is fast

A taste:
“What is the dead about?  I think it’s consciousness really.  Bring people aware of what they’re doin’.  We’re all in this world together.  […]  We’re all one.  I’ve never seen a Grateful Dead fight.”

You’re gonna make mistakes, but they’re also going to define your success.  Thousands of mistakes…you will eventually be successful in whatever you do.”

Favorite quotes:
“Have a great day.”
“Live in the now.”
